Ballroom Dancing for Kids in Paranhos (Porto)

R. da Cruz 364, Porto

Dancing is not learned with the feet alone. It is learned with the body, the mind and the joy.
Dance Kids is a dance programme adapted for children aged 6 to 12, inspired by Latin ballroom dances — Cha-cha-cha, Paso Doble, Rumba, Jive and Samba. More than teaching children to dance, these classes develop essential skills for any child's healthy growth: motor coordination, rhythm, posture, discipline and self-confidence — all in a fun, creative and age-appropriate environment.

Dance Kids classes are structured so that each child progresses at their own pace, always with energy, motivation and plenty of joy.

What is learned in these classes
Cha-cha-cha: an upbeat rhythm that develops coordination and musicality
Paso Doble: posture, presence and dramatic expression
Rumba: fluid movement and body awareness
Jive: energy, agility and speed of reaction
Samba: rhythm, balance and expressiveness

1. From what age can my child start?
A: Dance Kids classes are suitable for children from the age of 6. The methodology is adapted to the cognitive and motor development of each age group, ensuring that learning is always appropriate, fun and pressure-free.

2. My child has never danced before. Will they be able to keep up?
A: Yes, absolutely. The Beginner level was created precisely for those starting from zero. Classes begin with the simplest movements, in a playful and progressive way, so that every child feels comfortable and motivated from the very first day.

3. Does my child need a partner to sign up?
A: No. Classes work with a partner rotation system, which makes the experience richer and is an excellent way for children to develop social skills and teamwork.

4. What should my child wear and what footwear is best?
A: Comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement — tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt are perfect. For footwear, the ideal is shoes with a smooth sole that does not grip the floor. The school will provide all guidance on the required attire at the time of enrolment.

5. Are there performances or competitions throughout the year?
A: Yes. Ritmos Dance Studio organises presentations and events throughout the school year, where children have the opportunity to show what they have learned. It is a moment of great pride for the young dancers and their families.

6. Do Dance Kids classes prepare children for competition?
A: The classes have a formative and playful focus, but the foundations taught are the same as those of competitive Latin ballroom dances. For children who show interest and aptitude, there is the possibility of progressing to a more competition-oriented programme.

7. Can parents watch the classes?
A: To ensure the children's concentration and comfort, classes take place with students and the teacher only. However, open classes and performances are organised throughout the year so that parents can follow their children's progress.
