Elegance is not learned in a day. But it begins in one class.
Ballroom dancing is much more than dance, it is a way of communicating, expressing yourself and connecting with another person through movement. In Paranhos, in the heart of Porto, Ritmos Dance Studio offers a ballroom dancing programme for those who already have a foundation and want to keep evolving.
Classes cover the main ballroom rhythms — Paso Doble, Rumba, Jive, Cha-cha-cha, Samba, among others. — with a focus on technique, musicality and quality of movement as a couple.
Available Levels
Intermediate: For those who already know the fundamentals and want to consolidate their technique, expand their dance repertoire and gain more confidence and fluidity as a partner
Advanced: For dancers with solid experience looking to refine the details, develop expressiveness and elevate the quality of their dancing to a more demanding level.
No partner needed, sign up and start dancing.

1. Do I need a partner to sign up?
A: Not at all! Most students sign up individually. Classes are structured so that partners rotate, which makes the learning experience richer and is a great way to meet new people in a relaxed environment.
2. I have some experience but have been away from dancing for a while. Can I come back?
A: Absolutely. If you have had previous contact with ballroom dancing but took a break, the Intermediate level is the ideal entry point to pick it back up. The environment is welcoming and each student's pace is always respected.
3. What should I wear and what footwear is best for classes?
A: Comfort is the most important thing. Choose clothing that allows you to move freely. For footwear, the ideal is shoes that fit securely on the foot with a sole that does not grip too much — avoid rubber soles like those on trainers. Classic shoes or boat shoes are a good option to start with.
4. Is ballroom dancing good exercise?
A: Yes, it is a fantastic form of exercise. It is a moderate-intensity physical activity that works the whole body, improving cardiovascular fitness, posture, balance and motor coordination. The best part is that you have so much fun you barely notice the effort!
5. What is the age range of participants?
A: Classes are made up of adults of various ages. The environment is intergenerational and inclusive, bringing together people with a shared love of dance and good company.
6. Can I try a trial class before signing up?
A: Yes, and it is the best way to start! A trial class allows you to meet the teacher, get a feel for the group and check whether the level is right for you. Contact us to book yours.
7. How do I progress from Intermediate to Advanced?
A: Progression is natural and guided by the teacher. When your technique, musicality and confidence as a partner reach the required level, the teacher will indicate the right moment to move up to the Advanced level.
8. Is there an unlimited pass option to attend multiple classes?
A: Yes! The Free Pass is €55/month. With it, you have full and unlimited access to all classes at the studio, including Ballroom, Competition, Afro-Latin, Latin Ladies, Solo Dance. It is the best way to immerse yourself in the world of dance and progress quickly.
