Afro-Latin Dance in Paranhos (Porto)

R. da Cruz 364, Porto

Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba — three rhythms, one passion.
Afro-Latin dances are pure energy. They are the most natural way to connect with the music, with your partner and with yourself — no barriers, no judgement, just rhythm and joy. In Paranhos, in the heart of Porto, Ritmos Dance Studio offers classes for those starting from scratch and for those who already have a foundation and want to keep growing.

The three dances you will learn
Salsa: Energetic, fast and technical. Lots of turns, arm movements and a contagious energy that turns any dance floor into a party.
Bachata: Sensual and romantic. Hip movement, close connection with your partner and a rhythm you feel as much as you dance.
Kizomba: Intimate and deep. A rhythm that resembles walking in an embrace, where the connection with the music and your partner is everything.

Available Levels
Beginner: For those starting from zero. Step-by-step learning in a relaxed and pressure-free environment. The only requirement is the desire to have fun.
Intermediate: For those who already know the fundamentals and want to consolidate their technique, gain more fluidity and explore all three styles with greater confidence.

No partner needed — sign up and let the rhythm take over.

1. Do I need to bring a partner to sign up for the classes?
A: Not at all! The vast majority of students sign up individually. The classes operate on a partner rotation system, which is ideal for learning faster, getting to know all your classmates, and creating a very fun group atmosphere.

2. I've never danced before, I'm an absolute beginner. Will I be able to keep up?
A: Yes, no problem at all. The beginner classes are designed specifically for those starting from scratch. The methodology is step-by-step, in a very relaxed and pressure-free environment. The only requirement is the desire to have fun!

3. What's the difference between Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba?
A: Simply put:

- Salsa: More energetic, fast-paced, and technical, with many turns and arm movements. It's the life of the party.
- Bachata: More sensual and romantic, with more hip movement and a closer connection with the partner.
- Kizomba: More intimate and connected, with a rhythm that feels like a 'walking embrace.' The connection with the music and the partner is what matters most.

In class, you'll discover which style is your favourite!

4. What should I wear? And what kind of shoes should I use?
A: Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely (jeans and a t-shirt are perfect). The most important thing is your footwear: avoid trainers with rubber soles, as they grip the floor too much and make turns difficult. The ideal shoe has a smoother sole that allows you to slide a little. For women, it's not necessary to wear high heels to start.

5. Will I learn all three dances in every class?
A: Usually, the classes are structured to focus on one or two styles at a time to ensure a solid foundation in the basics. Throughout the course, you will cover the three main rhythms (Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba), progressively building your dance repertoire.

6. Are there parties or places in Porto where I can practice what I learn?
A: Yes, lots of them! Porto has a very active Afro-Latin dance community. In addition to the practice sessions and events that the school itself may organise, the instructors always recommend the best parties and social events in the city where you can practice, dance, and improve.

7. Is there a pass option to attend multiple classes?
A: Yes! We have the Free Pass for €55, our most popular option. It gives you full and unlimited access to all studio classes, including Social Dance, Competition, Afro-Latin, Latin Ladies, Solo Dance. It's the best way to dive into the world of dance and improve quickly.
